Under the requirements placed upon us by Transport Canada, you must undertake the course in whole prior to taking the final assessment.

We possess a back-end reporting and tracking system that allows us to view statistics including how long course learners spend on the course, and we will withhold certification if we have any concerns as to the speed that a learner completes this online course.

Please ensure that you take this course seriously and that you complete each unit as required. Failure to do so may result in you being reported to the relevant Government Body.

Important Information

The Learners taking this Online (STCW ISPS) Proficiency in Security Awareness Course.

This course has been assessed and tested by Transport Canada as meeting the requirements laid down by the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB).

This course lasts a minimum of 5 hours which encompasses the reading, video content, test questions and final assessment. This course is fully trackable and a report generated on the duration and results of the learner taking this course.

Should there be a discrepancy regarding the time taken on the course, this will be addressed by the training company and certification may be withheld. Should any discrepancy continue, it will be escalated to Transport Canada who will address the issue.

Important Information

The training given in this course (IMO Model Course 3.27-Ed: 2012) will provide the knowledge required to enable personnel without designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan (SSP) to enhance ship security in accordance with the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code, and section A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code, as amended.

The seafarers successfully completing this course will be adequately competent to be able to contribute to the enhancement of maritime security by having a heightened awareness and ability to recognize security threats and to respond appropriately. This knowledge shall include but is not limited to:

  1. the meaning and the consequential requirements of the different security levels;
  2. knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans;
  3. recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices;
  4. recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security; and

Important Information

Seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board a ship which is required to comply with the provisions of the ISPS Code on the business of that ship as part of the ship’s complement without designated security duties shall, before being assigned to any shipboard duties, receive appropriate approved training or instruction in security awareness as set out in table A-VI/6-1, of the STCW code and be required to provide evidence of having achieved the required standard of competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in this table.
