Welcome to the Online PDSD Course from Virtual Maritime Academy.
Welcome to the Online (STCW ISPS) Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) Course. The course meets with all the Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency requirements of the key learning objectives as required by Transport Canada as meeting the requirements laid down in:
Regulation VI/6, paragraph 4 and Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 6 to 8 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended and incorporates Proficiency in Security Awareness laid down in Regulation VI/6 and Section A-VI/6 of the STCW Convention and Code.
If required, you can also fully exit the course at any point and come back to it and pick up from where you left off. So, if you need to take a few days' rest, or other duties take precedence, you have that ability to move in and out of the course itself.
Take a rest before the Final Assessment to read through any course notes you have in order to achieve the highest score possible. The pass mark for this course is set at a minimum of 70%.
Under the requirements placed upon us by Transport Canada, you must undertake the course in whole prior to taking the final assessment.
Course Tracking & Reporting System:
We possess a back-end reporting and tracking system that allows us to view statistics including how long course learners spend on the course, and we will withhold certification if we have any concerns as to the speed that a learner completes this online course.
Please ensure that you take this course seriously and that you complete each unit as required. Failure to do so may result in your certification being withheld.
The following two sections will cover the tasks as required by Transport Canada
Student Verification Form
Submitting your personal details to the Learner Verification Form (this form is linked to our website). Make sure you have a scanned copy of at least one of the following documents: (i) in-date Passport, (ii) Seaman's book, (iii) Certificate of Competency (iv) in-date Driving Licence (v) Official Government ID.
You should take regular breaks throughout the course to rest and reflect on what you have been learning and we will drop in subtle reminders at appropriate intervals.
